“New” Photographic Competition

The Multicultural Community Centre is conducting a Photographic competition to coincide with the 2019 Chinese New Year Celebrations, partnering with

  • Queensland Chinese Photographic Society Inc. (QCPS)
  • Gold Coast Chinese Photographic Society Inc. (GCCPS)
  • International City Church (ICC)

The subject of the Competition is “NEW”. This is open to interpretation by participants. Show us your best photographs on this subject. They could include: New Babies, Friends, cars, pets, houses, lifestyle or attitudes. Use your imagination and Creativity to show us innovative examples of what “New “means to you.

Eligibility to Participate

Members of the following organisations and their families are encouraged to enter the competition:

  • Queensland Chinese Photographic Society Inc. (QCPS)
  • Gold Coast Chinese Photographic Society Inc. (GCCPS)
  • International City Church (ICC)

There are no separate age groups. Photographers of any age are welcome to participate.

Judges

A jury of three Judges will be used. They are

  • Gang Wei (PSQA) – Queensland Chinese Photographic Society Inc.
  • Ray Chen – Gold Coast Chinese Photographic Society Inc.
  • Philip Lawrence (EFIAP, FAPS, CAPS) – Queensland Camera Group.

Timetable

  • Images shall be entered no later than 20th January 2019
  • Short list of images is made by judges by 23rd January 2019
  • Hi res files requested for printing by 24th January 2019
  • Hi res files shall be submitted before 31st January 2019
  • Exhibition images printed and framed by 10th February 2019
  • Exhibition of Prints and announcement of winners 16th February 2019.

Submitting Your Images

You may enter up to TWO images in the competition. We accept only digital files and they should be emailed to new2019@qcps.org.au  

The email should contain the following information:

  • Name (English)
  • Name (Chinese, if any)
  • Phone number
  • Address

Eligible entries shall meet the following requirements:

  • Images shall be in JPG/JPEG file format only, with a maximum size of 2MB
  • The optimised horizontal dimension is 1920 pixels and the optimised vertical dimension is 1080 pixels.
  • File names: MUST show Title_Maker_Organisation.jpg
    • g., New Baby_ John Smith_QCPS.jpg
  • Photographs may have been taken at any time in the past five years using any photographic technique. Black and White, Colour or other techniques are acceptable. Photo manipulation using Photoshop or other program is allowable.
  • All elements of the image must be the work of the Photographer.
  • No watermark is allowed on images.

Judging Process

All submitted images will be judged with the Maker’s identity concealed from the judges.

A shortlist of approx. 40 images will be selected by the judges for exhibition from all images submitted.

The Makers of the shortlisted images will then be requested to submit a Hi Resolution file to enable them to be printed for Exhibition purposes. Details of this requirement will be advised to the Makers involved.

Each Judge will then select 15 images and score them according to pre-set criteria. Wining images will then be determined by averaging the scores from the judges.

The Judges’ decisions are final. No correspondence will be entered into with regard to judging.

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

1 x First Prize   $500

1 x Second Prize $300

1 x Third Prize $200

5 x Highly Commended $50 each

Exhibition and Winner Announcement

40 shortlisted images will be printed, mounted and exhibited at the New Year Celebration on 16 February 2019. Prize winners will be announced at this Exhibition.

Artists’ Rights

By submitting images the participant agree that

  • The participants own the copy rights of submitted images.
  • The participant grants the organiser right to reproduce the images, for purposes include, but not limited to exhibitions, educational usage, used in organiser’s and it’s partners’ publications, websites etc.
  • The participant grants the organiser right to sell the prints to cover the competition costs.
  • You take full responsibility for the content of all images submitted, including the likeness of recognizable individuals. Model/Subject releases must be available for recognisable individuals if requested.
